2 Volumes, First edition. Vol 1: Gray cloth hardcover with heavily split spine, rubbed corners and edges. Pieces missing from cover and overall poor. Front endpaper is missing while second endpaper has extensive notes written on it. Cracked hinges and bookplate on inside front board. Foxing, stains, notes and pencil marks on the inside but overall clean and binding is tight. Vol 2: Red Cloth with marbleized page edges. Rubbing, worn corners spine cover chipped, torn, missing pieces and has tape marks on the cover and spine. Front and back covers are loose but still attached. Hinges cracked, pencil notes and marking on some pages. Overall inside pages are clean and binding is tight.This is the earliest comprehensive history of Texas written by an active participant. The author was a leader in the Texas Secession Convention, and was Adjutant General of H E McCulloch's brigade during the Civil War. After the war, he was mayor of Dallas and a leader in drafting the 1876 Texas Constitution.
