Limited editions are numbered. Two volume set of the William R. Jenkins edition in the original French language, green cloth boards with leather spine binding, gilt titles. Volume 1 is number 65 of 400 and is signed by the publisher William R. Jenkins under the limited number. Volume 2 is number 76 of 400 and is not signed. 2 Volumes with leather spines. Leather on spines is missing and down to the board but page edges are not exposed and still protected. Leather still on front and back boards. Edge and corner wear. Foxing on first and last pages. Page 1 partially detached in both volumes because hinge is cracked. Tissue guards in place by illustrations. Some fingerprints in the book but overall pages are clean and binding is tight.Victor Hugo's famous novel ("The Hunchback of Notre Dame") , originally published in 1831, written as a statement to preserve the Notre Dame cathedral in its then current form. Set in 1482 in Paris, the book tells the story of a poor barefoot Gypsy girl (La Esmeralda) and a misshapen bell-ringer (Quasimodo) who was raised by the Archdeacon (Claude Frollo).
