Gray Cloth Hardcover, 416 pages, 9 3/4" tall, Memorial Edition. Hardcover. Blind stamp signature on picture of Willard. Fair. Previous owner's name on endpaper. Cover is rubbed, soiled, edge and corner wear. Spine gutter edges are worn to the board. Toe and heel of spine worn to the board. Foxing around plates and on outside edges of cloth cover. Inside pages clean and binding is tight. Frances Willard was an active suffragette and the head of the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in the latter part of the 19th Century and was one of the most famous women in the world. She was the first woman to be honored by a statue in Statuary Hall of the U. S. Capitol. This is a biography by Willard's long-time secretary, and includes character sketches and memorial tributes by many prominent people, including Edward Everett Hale, Dr. Milton S. Terry, Mary Lowe Dickenson, Susan B. Anthony, Booker T. Washington, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and others, with an Introduction by Lady Henry Somerset. Black and white frontis portraits of Willard; additional black and white plates of photographs and sketches.
